Ponyo

Ponyo ( IMDB wikipedia ) 2008 is Splash with a bacon fetish remade by Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki that was written on drugs. It’s a charming Japanese animated film that allows us to relive the magic chemistry between Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah in a very new way. It’s a fine children’s film. It’s not as polished as a Pixar film, but it is certainly beautiful in its own right. Ponyo is a goldfish with a face found by Sosuke, a young Japanese boy who lives with his mother and father, who is often away at sea, atop a cliff facing the ocean. Ponyo is the daughter of some wizard who lives beneath the sea who had children with a sea goddess. He gets Ponyo back from Sosuke but then she gains more magical powers and returns to reunite with Sosuke. It’s all very well drawn and quite amazing. Well worth a look 4/5.
