Big Trouble

Big Trouble (1999) by Dave Barry is a fun, silly book about the usual mishmash of teenage love, advertising, dodgy bars, corruption, the FBI and weapons of mass destruction.

Barry is a funny writer and the book is pretty funny. It’s not classic comedy but it’s a very amusing light read. The pacing is good and the characters are interesting and amiable. There are a few characters who are actually so hopeless they are beyond belief, but it works with the comedy. The book was written before 9/11 and brings back an era when Americans were actually wiser about terrorism. There was an apparently poor and unsuccessful movie made about the book that had the misfortune to come out after 9/11.

The book is fun distraction that is a fine light read.
