Born Standing Up

Born Standing Up (2007) by Steve Martin is a short, careful autobiography. It’s odd to read for someone who like Steve Martin but isn’t really that much of a fan.

The book details Martin’s early life and rise to stardom. It concentrates on how he went from a magician to a stand up. It goes into how he was a hippy and related to the counter culture.  The parts on his stand up career are really interesting and read well. The book also goes into why he stopped doing stand up.

The book hardly has anything about his movie career that made him an international star.

It’s a good, quick read that has received fairly good reviews. Worth a look.
