Familiar Ground

Familiar Ground (MIFF) (2011) is French-Canadian film that has an interesting premise, a man comes from the future to inform someone of incoming doom and that is portrayed as a fun quirky film but that doesn’t come off. Benoit and Maryse and brother and sister. Benoit’s life is miserable, he lives with his father and his relationship with his girlfriend is failing. Maryse is not happy.

The premise is good but the film doesn’t ever gather momentum. It’s not a bad film but it’s not definitely not a strong one either. It’s a bit like the worth films that Australia tends to produce that have an interesting idea but that don’t come together.
