The Sirens of Titan

The Sirens of Titan (1959) by Kurt Vonnegut is a wonderful book that really surprised me because I don’t know how I’ve missed it. The book is funny and touching and was a strong influence on later science fiction comedy including Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

The book has time travel, space travel, sex, money, aliens robots, mind control and religion. To write much about what happens is really to take away from the book. It is one of the science fiction books I’ve read that is so good it appears to be regarded as outside the genre. It’s really a marvelous read and it’s hard to think of a reason not to read it.
