Comedy Rules

Comedy Rules (2011) by Jonathon Lynn is an amusing light autobiography by Lynn that consists of a large number of rules for comedy that Lynn uses to give structure to stories about his life and work. Lynn is one of co-writers and creators of the superb Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister series. He has also had success as a theatre, TV and film directory.

Lynn was part of the group from the Cambridge Footlights that included The Goodies and Monty Python. After that he worked on various TV shows and theatre before writing Yes Minister. After Yes Prime Minister he went on to work in Hollywood.

The book is fun and really quite amusing in parts and would perhaps provide insight to professional comedians. For people who are just fans of Lynn’s work it’s also well worth reading.
