The Golem and Jinni

The Golem and the Jinni by (2013) by Helene Wecker is a book with a good new idea in urban fantasy. The lead characters are Chava, a golem and Ahmad, a dijinni from the Syrian desert. They both find themselves in early twentieth century New York.

The characters are placed into the Jewish and Syrian communities in New York. Without going into spoilers they then live, love and have to face an ancient enemy.

The book is well written and has a novel idea. It’s a bit long and drags in the middle but this seems to be the case with a lot of fantasy. Still, it’s creative, fun and worth reading.
