How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big (2013) by Scott Adams is the latest self-help book from Scott Adams. Adams is the creator of Dilbert and also the veteran of over a decade of working in white collar jobs.
The book has a number of themes that it pushes, don’t have goals and develop a system, try to be broad in your experience and use the various things you know, eat, sleep and exercise, use affirmations, change your habits and realise that luck is involved.
The surprising bits are not having goals and using affirmations. The no goals idea is well developed and is probably wise but goals do seem to work for some people. Affirmations won’t do any harm but how effective they are remains to be see.
In the book Adams also go through failures that he has had. His failures are amusing and fun to read about. He’s knows how to write and make things interesting.
The book probably won’t radically change your life, but it’s certainly well worth a read.
