The Hundred Year Old Man Who Jumped out a Window (2009) by Jonas Jonasson is a reasonable read that intermingles a Forest Gump like story with the story of the subject of the book running away from a retirement home and encountering various Swedes and going on something of a caper.
It’s not bad, but the it feels a bit twee and laboured and is a bit long. The subject, Allan, meets up with many of the twentieth centuries major figures and drinks with them all.
The book is better known now that it’s been made into a movie which is somewhat surprising, but perhaps the idea of a Scandanavian Forest Gump appeals to enough people to make it viable.
It’s quite charming in parts and many people seem to enjoy it. Not a bad read.
